The Akwa Ibom State government has ordered traders to immediately reduce the cost of foodstuff in the market across the state within 31days. Idorenyin Raphael, the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Traders’ Matters, issued the order on Monday through a letter he wrote to the various market unions. Mr. Raphael, in the letter, threatened that the state government would dissolve the leadership of any union that does not comply with the order within the stated period.  He said the unions were taking undue advantage of the poor economic situation in the country to inflate prices of foodstuffs, thereby causing unnecessary hardship among the people. The governor’s aide later appeared on a radio programme on Wednesday to explain how the unions were allegedly responsible for the high prices of foodstuffs in the markets. “Garri is selling between N30,000 and N22,000 per bag in the state, but if you go outside Akwa Ibom garri it is sold between N18, 000 and N17, 00

Parents exchange blows at children’s graduation

The shameful incident happened at a high school graduation in Tennessee U.S. Two separate fights broke out between parents who came to witness their children’s graduation from Arlington High School near Memphis.  Graduating seniors were walking in their caps and gowns on Tuesday at Bellevue Baptist Church when the first scene between two women appeared to start lunging and hitting each other as several others attempt to restrain them. One of the videos, posted to Instagram, was taken by Kasidy Landry, who was there to watch her sister, Tayler Landry, graduate. It was unclear what prompted the fight but some said the brawl was caused by a row between the two women over a reserved seat. Driver elopes with N6m worth of goods

One of the drivers of the popular Nigerian phone retail outlet, Slot Nigeria Limited, has been arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command over the diversion of N5.95 million worth of laptops, mobile phones and its accessories, just as it assisted in the recovery of N4,654,224 worth of goods from the suspect. The suspect, Olumide Babajide, 42, from Kwara State, was tracked and arrested in Kaduna State, where he diverted the goods to, after taking them from the Slot Nigeria Office based in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos. The driver, who was engaged in March, 2017, by the company, was directed to move the consignment to Slot Outlet in Victoria Island, Lagos in May 2, 2017, when the incident happened. NYSC to post corpers to farms.

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, will start posting corps members to Farms. Speaking during his official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun State, the corp’s Director General Suleiman Kazaure said this move is in line with the agricultural development programme of the NYSC. . He said that Bauchi, Oyo, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had been earmarked for the pilot phase. “It should interest you to know that the NYSC will soon begin its agricultural development scheme where corps members will be posted to Farms for their primary assignments. Already the NYSC has acquired active farmlands across the nation’s geopolitical zones with four already fully operational in Kwali, Bauchi, Oyo and Kebbi. After this orientation programme for the Batch ‘A’ corps members, we will begin posting some of them to these Farms as a pilot phase. Pregnant lady who wrote JAMB 7 times, emerges the best graduating student in LASU With a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.74, a 29-year-old lady, Remilekun Orefunwa, was on Wednesday declared the best-graduating student of the 2015/2016 academic session of the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos. Orefunwa, who is pregnant with her first child, was declared the overall best-graduating student by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, during the 21st convocation of the institution. . In her remarks, Orefunwa said that she sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination seven times before gaining admission to study at LASU.
